Here is a video on winning arguments, or at least resolving them peacefully, makes good sense.

I never click on random videos unless there is a cogent summary.

It's an embedded Youtube video. If you click the link below the video, it'll take you to Youtube (a safe site), and I'm sure you'll find a description there.

Definitely a lot of truth in that. I see the “backfire” affect on these boards all the time. The more you argue and tell them the wrong the more entrenched in their beliefs people get.

Very interesting, but I was disappointed that the term "cognitive dissonance" wasn't mentioned, which is one of my favorite psychological concepts.

If you firmly believe something, and have over time, and have argued for it, then when you are presented with evidence that you may be wrong you become very very uncomfortable. And rather than consider the new evidence carefully, most people twist it to conform to what they believe in the first place, or dismiss it as being unreliable.

It's an amazing thing to watch, the physical display of discomfort cognitive dissonance causes people until they can make the new piece of information fit their original belief.

The video played fine for me. I found it extremely interesting! Maybe it should be required viewing before posting in the Politics and Other Controversial Topics thread!

For those who liked the video Im glad you liked it. For those who couldn't open the video what it talks about is, instead of trying to argue with somebody to ask them to explain why they hold the position they hold. When you argue against somebody they go into fight or flight so that's why you don't want to do that. Its much better to ask them to explain their position.
