I'm not sure where to post this. It doesn't belong with "Darwin Awards" because to my knowledge no one died and the gene pool continues. On the other hand the level of stupidity is beyond pathological. Or the need to replace one addiction with another, just as dangerous and explosive to boot, must indicate some mental defect.

Darwin level stupid it's not. The kid was using the device in the way it was intended to be used, he wasn't using something in a way it was never meant to be used, he wasn't ignoring safety precautions, he wasn't showing a lack of common sense (other than smoking or vaping, but that's another topic). Darwin award winners cause their own demise, this I think can be blamed squarely on the mfg, not the user. Lots of other people do the exact same thing this kid did and don't suffer negative consequences. I doubt you could say the same about most Darwin Award nominees. I hope this kid gets a good lawyer.

Not Darwin Award-level stupidity but close. And while we're at it why is "smoking or vaping....another topic"? As far as the need for a "lawyer" I would volunteer but I rescue my clients from different types of stupidity or evil.

I don't think there's anything humorous about this.

Yes, the humor here seems to escape me as well.

Mobile devices burst into flames in someone's pocket, I suppose that is funny too?

Thx

I called it "grim humor." People's stupidity seems to know no bounds. After all what is funny about any of the Darwin Awards?

These devices are made in China, and some of the circuitry can be cheap and suspect. The batteries may have had some damage to them as well. Lithium Ion batteries are very good, but can be dangerous especially if knocked around and the device does not have good protection circuitry. Hope the kid will be ok.

A product being used as intended turned out to be defective and caused him harm. You are calling him stupid and finding humor in the situation. In my opinion, your comments are in very poor taste.

I can excuse smoking in earlier generations. Now, it's inherently stupid.

Your logic escapes me. How is this case in particular any more 'stupid' than anyone else smoking or vaping? What makes it worthy of being Darwin award material? If you just want to rant about how stupid it is to smoke, feel free, but that has nothing to do with being Darwin award material in the way that you are suggesting. IMO, thread fail.
