What is behind people posting on Facebook or other social media "breaking news" that everyone else on Facebook or other social media -- as well as every major and minor news outlet -- has been posting for at least an hour or two? Do they honestly think they're informing anyone who doesn't already know? It's just a form of attention-seeking behavior, I suppose, but it certainly is annoying.
They just have nothing to say, so they repeat other people's news. I would ignore it, or adjust the settings so you wouldn't see it.
I ignore many things in life. Not worth to get upset about what people post, especially on Social Media.
They want to discuss it ... as if they would be sitting on a table discussing news with friends.
IMO that is more entertaining and useful for SOCIAL media than posting a bazillion pictures of your baby or self empowerment quotes. I unfriend people for drama laden and pity seeking quotes, I have no patience for that.

They want to convince others they belong to the well informed up-to-the-minute crowd.
I do see breaking news on Facebook but groups are posting it and the news is relevant to their causes. For example, I am part of school safety groups so they have been posting the shooting on California. It is very rare for individuals on my friend's list to post breaking news.
