I'm one of those people who always responds back to texts within a matter of minutes. That is mainly because I always have the phone on me just like everyone else. Unless you're a new mom who have like 3 little kids running around and got baby duties and that is almost like 10% of people we know, if that. So majority of the people have no excuse to not text back or unless you live in a box and still carry a flip phone that you need to mail back to the 70s.

Am I the only one who is so responsive? Are there people out there who can relate?

For one, I mute my phone for the night. Surprised at how many people don't. I've got to get my digital detox.

If the text arrives during waking hours, I respond ASAP if it's time sensitive (e.g. arranging to meet someone) or if it's easy to answer. Sometimes, it's not and that's when I can get distracted and take a while to get back.

I also don't think SMS is a suitable medium for some types of communication. For example, if I need something in real time I call. If I expect a lot of back-and-forth, this is better suited for an instant messaging type app.

I usually respond quickly but people misinterpreted this as me being available for every text. Some texts require a phone call. It is better to not have proof of certain things. Once those conversations get out of hand, I verbally let them know I am done with the topic or the tone. To text me is to continue to pester me.

I respond pretty quickly when I can. Sometimes I’m driving, sometimes I’m busy at work, sometimes I’m with other people (I think it’s rude to keep looking at your phone/texting when with others) so there are times when I wait to respond.

So while I’m not a mom with three little kids running around, I’m not always going to stop doing what I’m doing to respond. Your text is unlikely to be more important than my current activity.

If I am having a conversation, or someone is telling me something important that requires reply, I usually respond momentarily or call. (depending on urgency)
When someone is texting me out of boredom, or wants to chit-chat and I am busy, they have to wait.

That is another good point, the boredom. I can tell when somebody is texting me out of boredom.

Sorry, not everyone stays "connected" 24/7 with their phone glued to their hand.

I put my phone away at night and I don't text while driving, which could be up to 4 hours a day. People know if they need me urgently I will answer a call.

I think the OP may be overestimating how much importance the average person gives to text messaging.

Who exactly are you complaining about, OP? Who is not texting back fast enough, and on what issue?

Also very telling that OP thinks the flip phone was an invention of the 1970s.

"I'm one of those people who always responds back to texts within a matter of minutes. That is mainly because I always have the phone on me just like everyone else."

Not 'everyone else' has their phone implanted like you do...This may horrify you, but my wife and I go out to our little desert house on weekends, and there is no cell service (on purpose). ...and we actually survive

"So majority of the people have no excuse to not text back" -

Oh really? So we're all at your beck and call then...? Some people have better things to do than stare at their phone all day long, (like you apparently)

I suspect you're a millennial, poor thing, and I don't really care if you are a slave to your electronics. Just don't expect everyone else to care or understand. And it takes a lot of nerve to judge others because you have a problem........

Smile Texting not my favorite but....

I do respond.

I also have 2 emails, regular phone calls from business lines and of course, the texts.

I have to keep a conversation log for business items. I have to type it into my system.
It's a pain actually but I do respond within an hour usually.
