Is the Escapism in Binge Watching similar to that of Drug Addiction?

Escapism, I engage in that often, seeking ways to get away from reality even for a second.
But one of the things I remember from the anti-drug films of the 70s was about how people use drugs to escape their problems but when it wears off, one's problems are still there.
So is escapism right at all, what's the difference?
Well, with a book or a movie or a TV show, one reaches the end and the production says "The End". Hopefully it is well made and one is left with a feeling of satisfaction. They cannot jump back in wanting "More, More, More!".
But does the ability to Binge Watch (or networks offering marathons) defeat that? Are we being hit with the same characteristics of drug addiction......and the viewer doesn't know it?
You know... it's possible to take drugs and binge watch at the same time.
I think the worst part of all this binge watching of TV series' is that viewers are "learning" fiction, made up stories. Sure some truth and reality can be in there but ultimately you don't learn much. It can contribute to ignorance is bliss which is growing like wild fires, especially in America. It used to just be grandma enjoying this blissful ignorance, now it is 20 and 30 somethings who should be facing and learning the realities of the world. Truth is optional these days.
I'm a big fan of this post--as a 'thirtysomething', heh.
Yes and no. When I binge watch I cut out commercials, regular tv, news, channel surfing etc so actual tv time isn't that much more. I will say when I binge watch I sometimes will watch an epi when ever I can like if I'm home for lunch rather than flip on news or surf I'll watch an epi of something.

You would think they would soon recognize the key factor of what they are watching of how it is different from them........how little, if at all, TV the people on TV watch. Of course, if they did watch TV, they wouldn't be entertaining. They are, however, what William Shatner said....."Get a life!".
