I get easily annoyed by people but I only can complain about the landscapers. I traded ghetto sounds (sirenes, mariachi music) when I just recently sold my house for a nicer area and now I have to hear blowers and lawnmowers all day. I live in an apartment on first level and there is something going on EVERY day. I had the vision of working from home on my patio but I can't because the landscapers are there EVERY day, right in front of my nose.

One day a little grass cutting. The next day blowing. The next day bushes. The next day trees. Oh, let's dig a hole right in front of the complex. Close it the next day. A week gone by and then the cycle repeats. They always just cut a little bit so they have to come back a week later again. Don't even get me started on how my car looks like from all the landscaping (street parking).

But I guess I rather have the monotone noises of machines instead of people.
Adults.

Aah landscapers.........and DYI drill bit specialists .....we have those too. I have a neighbor who likes tinkering with motors ....ALL is quiet but for this hog fest across the street. Also seems like each house has there own gardener at times but my HOA reserves monday as leaf blowing day.

MY favorite time of day is 11pm onward. I own the night !

I live in an apt complex & it's honestly been exactly THE SAME amount of noise before & during COVID. There's many times I could hear a pin drop.

Well, other than actually moving because this COVID looks like it will be around a long time, therefore you'll be hearing your neightbors for who knows how long, try this:

- be out of the house more - Go on walks, drives, etc.

- have some soft music on or some kind of sound in your house. I got a sound machine to play ocean waves. Fiance' really likes it.
I put white noise on when it gets really bad but I prefer to listen to birds. WE have many of them here.

In my neighborhood lots of houses have pools and if I am OUTSIDE I can sometimes hear kids laughing and playing, but those noises don't bother me, especially because I can't hear them at all from INSIDE my house. But I don't understand your "no walls" comment.
I am inside my house hearing them talking ...IN THEIR KITCHEN which leads to their patio. I hear the echo of them talking indoors....just like I am in the next room. Their voices carry that far. I am totally self conscious when I talk on my patio.......because I know it carries for long distances. These are just typical selfish Americans and loud. They are all over these days.

This is kind of off topic, but it reminded me...

We have a place out in the country. We have a pavilion, and that's where we hang, most of the time, unless we're doing work, or riding around, until we go to bed.

We used to have a neighbor across the road, who was just...a LOUD talker. Not that he was angry or anything...he just talked LOUD. He also had a family...wife and a couple of kids. One of the kids being a toddler, who cried a LOT.

He has since moved on to parts unknown, but I always wondered WHY does he have to conversate so darn loud? When he'd talk to his wife, you could hear everything he said. When she'd respond, you could maybe hear her voice softly, but you couldn't understand what she was saying.

Here at home, I can't really hear much, in the house. Probably because I work right next to my aquarium, which gurgles and bubbles all day. White noise. lol

Oh my gosh, I would go INSANE if I could hear my neighbors TALKING even when I am inside my house with doors and windows closed. I had enough of that crap when I lived in apartments -- the whole point of having my own house is that I wouldn't have to deal with that again!!

From inside my house I can occasionally hear things like snow-blowers or leaf blowers or lawn mowers, but those noises don't bother me in the least because they never last long -- as opposed to, say, music or TV or people talking, which of course can go on for hours and hours and hours. I have never heard my neighbors' music, TV, or conversation noise from inside my house. I would go nuts if I did. (My side neighbors are several hundred feet away, each; my across-the-street neighbor is maybe 120-130 feet away.)

AMEN.

I am originally from NYC hence the name CNYC. I can't tell you the nightmares I had in NYC....FOREVER. All that is keeping me from pure bliss is one group of Aholes next door. It's better than hearing thumping noises above you all night like in apartments ....but still....

We recently replaced our windows with triple-pane, mostly for energy efficiency, but we can barely hear thunder from inside now. Being summer, we spend a lot of time outside, even working with the laptop and wifi. Our lots here are in the 12,000 sf range, so the houses are not close together, and several of us are empty-nesters so few kids around. Most of what we hear is birds, this morning 3 loud crows.

You may want to play any of these various sounds in the background:

As your nemesis seems to have the numbers advantage you may want to look into organized retreat aka moving. How does RV and public land sound?
