Foodie is a word conjured up by a person who grew up in a house, place with no dictionary or parental homework help. That foodie is a gourmet. If you eat a lot, you're a gourmand.
A foodie is born not an acquired title. I'm a self proclaimed foodie since a young age. I've traveled to a few countries and have sampled food that most Americans have never experienced until recently.
Good food is one of the top joys in life. Right up there with good sex, good sleep and peeing when you REALLY have to go. There are a zillion porn channels. It should come as no surprise food gets a lot of positive attention.
I’m guessing they post to share with and connect with other foodies. Just like people with other interests do be it cats or gardening or whatever. Foodies aren’t some special case with differing psychological needs for connection with others.

I don't think it is accurate that 'foodies' are not different psychologically in certain ways and not accurate that they do not have certain psychological needs which distinguish them.

The purpose of and definition of psychology is to analyze behavior and personality, and to explore behavior and personality in depth, and to put it in a framework to understand it and characterize it.
See post #49 where I explain what psychology is. And give the definitions from authoritative sources. This is the Psychology forum - where behavior is analyzed.

At what point, in posts to food ratio, would you consider someone a social media "foodie?"

...And my answer remains legit! The answer is because they are BOTH attention seeking.

Is there something inherently wrong about seeking attention? People drive fancy cars or wear designer clothes or work out a lot so that other people will notice. There can be negative aspects where some people might have self-esteem issues, but nothing necessarily pathological about showing off a little.
I consider myself a MINOR foodie because like many others, I LOVE food & like eating at many restaurants & eateries often & trying new places. The part I don't really do is take photos of my food (whether restaurant or what I made)...however, I've done it very rarely & posted a couple of certain restaurant photos on Yelp only which a review site.
