By the way, did you become a contrarian free thinker before or after the Ivy League sojourn? (If you catch my drift.)
I wound up graduating Cornell and law school and am now a practicing lawyer.
As for your question, if I had to date it it was September 1974, when Nixon was pardoned. I was by family history a liberal Democrat though not registered until a month after I turned 18, which was April 1975. I was almost alone in my high school and certainly alone among habitual Democrats in supporting the Nixon pardon. Also I was almost alone among people who had cars in supporting the end of gasoline price controls.
DM me if you want to discuss certain aspects further.
I don't believe in "plandemic" though. The media by its lonesome can generate panic.
My reason for believing the whole thing was planned is that Lake of the Ozarks partiers were shamed, while looters causing billions of dollars in property damage nationwide got support and sponsorship from certain politicians.
That being said, I resumed socializing weeks before the first storefront was smashed. I was simply tired of the lockdowns, and preferred to get The Big Bad Virus, rather than further destroy my mental health. The realization that Covid was planned came later.
Today, Covid is effectively over for me. My former friends are now disembodied Facebook notifications, if that. My current friends, vaxxed and otherwise, don't fear Covid. (I'm vaxxed.) The only reminder of it being around are those stupid masks; and even that's only in liberal areas.

That's just woke politicking. Sort of like when Al Gore and John Kerry do their climate change advocacy in private jets. Rinse, wash, repeat.

My colleagues and I reopened our law office during Phase I reopening, which was right around the start of the riots. We were supposed to wait until Phase II. The trouble with socializing is that my friends scattered to their second homes. My first "official" socializing was a rooftop dinner with a friend from my temple in mid-July.

I don't fear Covid. I prefer everyone be vaxxed though. I draw the line somewhere. I don't know that I would hang out with someone with polio or diphtheria during their contagious phase even though I have been vaccinated for 60 years.

I now live in a VERY conservative area (northern Alabama). Masks are still very much present here. Mostly older folks, moms and their children. Face masks are worn by medical personnel, WalMart workers, Costco workers, restaurant workers, fast food employees, etc.
I don't fear Covid. I attend church without a mask. I have severe underlying issues. I've never gotten Covid. I wear a mask when required. Some people in my church have had Covid. They didn't tell people until after the fact. Some have long Covid. I don't fear getting Covid. I'm not going to alter my life any more than I have to. Life is hard enough.
I wear a mask when required. That's it. Before I moved to Alabama, I was out and about in Southern California ALL the time, because I had to be. Never got Covid. People cowering in their homes, terrified of dying, wouldn't come to the door, wouldn't go to the store, wouldn't even have groceries delivered! One lady I heard about spent hours wiping everything down after getting home, many wouldn't eat outside at a restaurant when they finally could again. Assaulting others verbally and sometimes physically for not wearing a mask. I'm over it.
My doctor states that the virus is dying out - barring a spike, of course. He's rabidly against the vaccine and wearing a mask. There are studies that support both sides of the argument.
I always say, LIFE kills us. we're born and we're gonna die. If I tried to avoid every single thing that was bad for me, I wouldn't be living a life worth living.

Reason: correct typo and add a sentence

I live in the Chicago area, which is the polar opposite of your area. But masks follow an interesting pattern: the further away you get from downtown Chicago, the fewer of them you see. (Except on workers required to wear them on the job and inside trains; that's ubiquitous.) Go downtown, and masks are nearly everywhere, even on people walking alone in a relatively empty street; or worse, driving alone with windows up. Go to inner suburbs, and it's 50/50. Go west of I-355, and it's fairly normal in parks and on hiking trails, although most bars, restaurants, and stores are still anal about it (unless you find a hidden gem). Go west of the Fox River, and it's basically 2019 everywhere.
At the same time, in all those areas, non-maskers like me on the streets are sort of their own underground movement hiding in plain sight, like weed smokers in the 1990's. They nod hello to each other, they let me pet their dogs, and there's a feeling of subtle camaraderie that didn't exist in 2019.

That's awesome. It's pretty much like that here in Alabama. I went to my doctor the other day, I wore a mask into the waiting room but happened to be the only person so I took it off. Fast forward, my doctor walks in without a mask and we have a 30 minute conversation about the covid and the plandemic before starting the consult. My orthopedist doesn't wear a mask. My pulmonologist does, but I can understand that. HE wants me to get the vaccine but I'm not and he's OK with it being my choice. I have my valid reasons. Got into a huge cluster with another poster a few months ago, not going down that road again so it ends here.

I work in medical logistics, delivering equipment to hospitals. Hospitals by me are super-strict are masks and other safety rules. Some refuse to even let me go past the loading dock or the curbside; a hospital worker takes the equipment off my hands, and I leave. Others are lenient enough to let me move the equipment a dolly to the destination department, as long as I don't linger in patient areas, and a worker escorts me through staff hallways.
It's extremely unlikely that we'll get into a cluster. It sounds like me and you have the same political beliefs. But since this is Psychology and not P&OC, I agree with your decision not to continue debating it.

Yep, another Psych thread is being closed because some people can't resist interjecting their political opinions and/or off-topic comments. Remember that persistent hijacking is an infractable offense.
