Like I’m on meds for blood pressure but since I booked the trip its caused it to go up really high and have a headache. Yesterday as I was deciding I felt really sick. Took a Xanax but didn’t help much. I just want to go somewhere this weekend (friends and husband can’t go with me). From Chicago to NY for 3 days to a convention to meet a celeb I like (2 fans I know I would meet up with) I freak out about an Uber or taxi at night. I don’t want to rent a car and drive in an unfamiliar, what if flights are canceled, bad weather. I booked it and then freaked out and canceled it. Now I wish I didn’t. But I fear this will give me a heart attack or stroke if I do it. I hate flying and haven’t since the pandemic. Wearing a mask for hours will be hard also. I can’t seem to control my anxiety. Is it worth it?

Hey there, do you focus on yourself when you start getting anxious about these stuff?
For example when you are wearing a mask do you often start to focus on how you breath and get anxious that you can't breathe right?
I don't know your story but there was a point in my life where I got really anxious about going outside and wearing a mask and would get to the point of being so self conscious that I actually made the anxiety worse by hyperfocusing on every little thing that may be wrong with my body.
I started with beginners meditation and I learned how to control these kinds of thoughts. Well not really control. More like acknowledge them and let them pass without paying too much attention to them. If you let your body think that you're not well you really have the power to negatively affect it and get more anxious.
If you don't want to go to a therapist I would suggest at least trying out stuff that don't make you anxious. There's no need to push yourself to go, but even if you do, it's going to be fine. If you ever feel sick from anxiety just remind youself of the times that you've managed to surpass that anxiety. There have been millions of times that you've beaten it before and you can do it again.
And maybe try meditating before you sleep. Good luuuck!
If you are that stressed out, then it seems like it wouldn't be much of a vacation.
It also seems like the anxiety is getting to the point where it's going to be increasingly limiting for you. I'd urge you to work with someone who can help you game your way out of this in a controlled manner. At this point it sounds like a major vacation trip is beyond you.
My wife & I are trying to figure out new therapy modalities that might break a similar logjam for her son. We heard about "Schema Therapy", which tries to identify the schemas, or ways in which you connect and relate various aspects of your life (social interactions, work, family, all of it) and identifying what parts of that are dysfunctional and then gradually modifying the schema and retraining yourself in it. It sounds like it might be a great way to address my stepson's social anxiety. Problem is, there aren't many qualified practitioners; the nearest to us is the 40 minutes away and not taking patients at present.
A lot of people aren’t really interested in traveling to larger cities or taking flying trips by themselves. It does seem like you would benefit from therapy, but I don’t think you need to beat yourself up over this. I seem to live in your area.
When I do trips alone, I prefer to do driving trips within 6 hours or so. It gives me a little more flexibility. I have booked a few and ultimately decided I wasn’t in the mood and canceled them. I still did 3 independent trips last year though, all within a 3-hour drive.
You should talk to a therapist about your anxiety, because completely avoiding situations that make you anxious only feeds it and makes it worse and more entrenched.
In the meantime, you could try smaller steps to deal with your anxiety, like renting an AirB&B someplace a few hours drive away for a weekend, where you'd have to be in an unfamiliar environment, but you'd have a little more control of the situation.
If your friends or your husband were able to go to New York with you, would you still be having this anxiety? If not, then it's not the mask or the Uber or the flight that's causing you stress; it's having to face these things alone, without anyone there to help if things go wrong.
I would think that minimizing the chances of anything going wrong would help. Take a nonstop flight in both directions, so you don't have to worry about missing connections. If the outbound flight (from Chicago to NY) is cancelled, shrug your shoulders and go back home. If the return flight is cancelled, they'll book you on another one, so just resign yourself to hanging out at the airport for a few hours. Fly during the day in both directions, so you don't have to worry about taking a taxi or Uber at night. Stay at a hotel close to the convention site so you can walk there. If you don't want to be out at night, leave the convention while it's still daylight and return to your hotel. If possible, have your fellow fans escort you to the hotel. Eat dinner at the hotel restaurant, or else order in.
If doing these things doesn't help your anxiety, then you shouldn't go, unless you can find someone to go with you. But if this is the case, I would consider looking into why you need someone else to travel with you.

Depends on the celebrity!
David Hasselhoff? nope
William Shatner? nope
William Hung (American Idol)...........Absolutely!
Honestly, if the convention is in NYC I wouldn't go, crime is up at least 58%, there are over 200 crimes that can be committed and the culprits don't have to post bail, they are let go to commit more crimes. One guy committed three crimes in one day and was let go each time. I live a 20 minute train from NYC and you couldn't pay me to go there with the rise in crime the Democrats caused. Your favorite celebrity probably has armed body guards.
