Messages from a relative are followed by thank you and I don't think it is used in a cordial way. Too many of the messages may be general and no closing suitable or required. Is this person standing (or think they are standing) higher on the ground than others? Thanks.

Wut? How about an example of what you mean? It's possible all they're doing is thanking you for reading the message! Are these messages emails? It's also possible they use some sort of closing template (like an automatic default signature) a bit too often.

No one here knows your relative or the relationship you have with them. How could we guess? Feels like conclusions only you would jump to. You may be reading much more into this than there is.

Do you want relative to write tootle-loo instead.

If someone signing off with a thank you is your biggest problem you are very lucky.

I don't see the problem. It's a closing. Do you prefer Thanks? or Sincerely? or ????

How on earth would we know?

It does sound like you're just looking to be offended.

Is this the Gen Z thing where they think that "Thank You" is passive aggressive, or what?
