The Spadefish were pretty cool. I thought the sheepshead-ish fish weren't sheeps because they didn't have that hard beak-like mouth. You have to make up alot of words when you talk about fish!

Is this what you saw, maybe?
It's a Mayan Cechlid. Invasive species from Central America. Very aggressive feeders, strong fighters for their size. In my canal every summer. Pulled one out to show a neighbor today. Felt good to have a rod in hand, even if for this. Might add, these are safe and tasty to eat if you get them 10-12 inches.

Bill, I remember you telling me about them but I didn't see the spot on the tail. Maybe it was to young to have spot yet?

sheeps have a mouth full of teeth. Triggers and puffers have a 'beak' if that helps...

Have not seen any Myans or tilapia in our canals. I hear there are alot of both in the upper peace river (above 75 bridges...)

Good general summary, but note that the Pirate Harbor channel is much shallower now than when this was written. On a winter low tide, there's not 3ft of water in the middle of the channel where it crosses the bar. The East Wall bar continually moves south, and will reclaim the channel without dredging in the next couple of years. There's nobody taking a 45 Hat out of there now, lol.
