In my opinion, Charlotte Harbor is flats country but take a good test ride on a moderate chop day before you buy. All hulls are not created equal and it can gets crappy out there. A morning like this....

Can quickly give way to an afternoon like this....

It's a long way back from the Boca Grande Pass to Port Charlotte in weather like that. Thank God I was in a #ClassicMako
How far is it from Boca to Port Charlotte? We were told when we purchased our home in Gulf Cove that it was 45 min to the Gulf, wondering at what speed would get you there in 45 min.
Looks like you might have had a wet ride home.

It is approximately 20 miles from Fishermans Village to Boca. So depending upon where you are departing from that should give you a good idea.

Depends on where you are in Gulf Cove and how fast your boat is in (fill in the blank) conditions, but 45 min sounds optimistic. I come out at Ponce Park on the East side. Observing the minimum and no wake zones, it takes me 24 min to get to the last channel marker. That would leave me 21 min to make the 20 miles to Boca in 45 total min. My boat's reasonably fast, but not that fast.

I agree. It's roughly 20 miles from either Fishermans Village or the Charlotte Beach Complex to the intersection of the Gulf Intercoastal and Boca Grande Pass. Depending on your sea conditions and cruising speed, it takes about 45-60 minutes for me to make that run.

On the day of that stormy photo, it took me 2 hours to get back to the Beach Complex, where my canal begins. Then I ran out of 35 gallons of fuel. My normal range is 100 miles on a tank and I was full that day. 3-5' seas use a lot of fuel in a flats boat. By the time I could see my GPS, I had gone far off course and was up the Myakka River, entering Tippycanoe Bay.

From the Myakka River Bridge, it's 60-75 minutes with the same variables.

From the Boca Grande Bridge on Placida Harbor, it's about 20-30 minutes.

Not positive I know where Gulf Cove is on the water. If you show me a wide Google Earth picture with a pin drop, I can give you a realistic estimate.

Going to wet a few lines tomorrow. Question can you go under most of the 41 bridge pilings towards the center span?

Good luck! I see a lot of guys trying the power line area on the northeast side of the bridge, near the construction zone. Might spend a few minutes casting in that area, but don't let it sit still and get hung up on the cables.

If you're bottom fishing, be sure to use big enough sinkers. I had to go up to 4 oz bank sinkers to keep from rolling down current.

Nasty fog out there...will be curious to hear if he went out. In PC there was about 300 feet of visibility but once I hit the bridge, it cleared...although down and up river was still foggy. Not a morning I'd want to be on the water.

Went out after the fog cleared.. Tried Alligator reef again, 2 sharks and a skate and a sheepshead. Went closer to shore between Ponce and Alligator Creek. About 20 ladyfish. Bunch of dolphin in the area(Think flipper) Calm out today, water 79 degrees. Was heading up to the 41 bridges but got shortstopped at Harpoon Harrys for lunch. After a Oyster and Scallop platters and a couple of yuenglings each we headed back to the ranch and hit the pool. Tomorrows another day. Loving Fla.
