I was out yesterday and it was horrible full of them. When you stopped at a spot within a few minutes everything in the boat was covered with them.

No new posts in over a year? Went out with Capt Dave Sunday and had a blast. Lots of boats and fished the East wall some and caught a ton of snook and a few mangrove snappers which we invited for dinner. Personal best snook. All were caught on live sardines. Second group went out with the Capt for the 2nd half of the day and had a great time catching more snook and more mangrove snappers. Son in law had a Tarpon on for two jumps before it slung the hook. He's not a fisherman either so it may have been lost on him. They caught quite a few trout too-all left to make more trout. Fried up the snapper and it was outstanding! Fun fishery you guys have down in SWFL.

Nice post and fishing!
Couple questions.

Did you cast net to catch the Sardines? Then I’m curious, how did you fish them, bobber, free line, etc....

Thanks.

I must confess that we were with a guide. He explained that he chums up the bait with tropical fish food mixed with water. We used #2 circle hooks and freelined them. If we started catching catfish, we moved.

Yes-he is an awesome guide and all around good guy. We went out with him in May and caught snook, reds, trout and a few small sharks. The trout were some of the nicest trout I've ever caught and we have some pretty good ones on the Texas coast. Really enjoyed ourselves and he is an encyclopedia of fishing knowledge. Our trip a couple of weeks ago featured snook, a few small trout and the mangrove snappers. Which, dusted in "Louisiana" cornmeal fish fry makes a great meal!

Yep he is a good ole boy and one of the best guides in the area. I’m good friends with him happy you enjoyed your time.

We have a trip coming up to visit our lot and see how the dock progress is going in mid-September. Curious as to what if any changes in the fishing would be that time of year?
