I went out today, between Alligator Creek and Burnt Store (off shore near Pirates Harbor). Had absolutely no luck. I brought a friend, and we saw a 3' something or another head directly to and connect with his bait, but he reacted to slowly, and it just ate his bait, and continued on its way.

Soooo, . . . tomorrow, we are going out again at 10 AM. Hopefully for a better day! I'll let you know.

Head north, young man. Trout/Reds in canals east of Charlotte Beach boat ramp...ladyfish/trout in the channel near marker 13.

Whiting/Trout on the south side of the El Jobean bridge.

Let me know how you do.

That is where we'll be headed today! I know we will have more success today than we did yesterday. I left the boat in the water overnight with all the gear ready to go!

I'll report back later and let you know how we do.

U.S. to Set Catch Limits for All Managed Fish

In an effort to sustain commercial and recreational fishing for the next several decades, the United States this year will become the first country to impose catch limits for every species it manages, from Alaskan pollock to Caribbean queen conch.

Although the policy has attracted scant attention outside the community of those who fish in America and the officials who regulate them, it marks an important shift in a pursuit that has helped define the country since its founding.

Unlike most recent environmental policy debates, which have divided neatly along party lines, this one is about a policy that was forged under President George W. Bush and finalized with President Barack Obama's backing.

Yesterday, we started out at the fish haven between Alligator Creek and Burnt Store - caught a few bait fish and a sheep head. Then we travelled south west to Turtle Bay. One of the guys that went with us knows the harbor like the back of his hand and although shallow (I got out of the boat and pushed it) we made it into turtle bay. There we caught a bunch of sea trout, and more bait fish. After that, we went over to the Matlache pass / and stayed on the harbor side of the bridge. We fished along one of the channel drop-offs. There I hooked up on a really large Manta Ray. It fought like a much larger fish, until it got tired and decided to act like a log directly under the boat. It was heavy and hard to winch up, but we did it and released it.

From there we moved up the Harbor to the myaka cut off on the north side. What a beautiful area - first time in there for me too! We didn't have too much luck - a few good bites, but it was getting late so we headed home. I will definitely go back to this spot again! I know it holds nice fish. All in All - a great day.

Fooled around out there today...the wind was blowing and the harbor was full of white caps. We fished some new canals to get out of the wind, only got a bunch of lady's, a mullet (on a lure!) and 1 nice snook that spit the lure halfway to the boat while jumping. Fun, tiring day.

I noticed it was quite choppy out there yesterday. I'm glad you found some safe harbor areas to fish in.

I'll be holed up for a little while. I have my boat scheduled to be serviced, and I'm sending my GPS / Depth Finder in to Raymarine for service. I broke a pin in one of the ports that serves the depth finder / transducer, so that isn't working at the moment. After my boat is ready, I'll still go out and fish, but will have to wait to explore new areas until I get it (my gps) back.
