Any road construction news? I keep reading updates on the widening of Burnt Store Road, but this article says Lee County doesn't plan to start road construction until 2014.

Charlotte County is also working on Zemel @ Burnt Store but, unless I'm mistaken, the last newsletter I read said the project is scheduled for completion in 2035. I'll be dead by then.

Zemel Road at Burnt Store Road Intersection PD&E Study (http://www.zemelroad.com/Project_Information.html - broken link)

There are some very nice homes in communities like Burnt Store Lakes, but the drive up Burnt Store Road to Punta Gorda sometimes scares me. I mean, I'm just cruisin' along and suddenly someone like GOJ gets behind me and If there was a passing lane, that would resolve the problem. Then we old folks traveling at the speed limit could stay in the right lane and wave!.

If the economy turns around in a few years, I'm guessing that area will grow rapidly. Nobody knows, but we can always hope.

Nancy,
I have seen signs that the road (Burnt Store Road) is going to begin to be shut down in sections later this month. If you have to travel to Pine Island or Cape Coral and normally head down that route, you will have to find another route. You can see some construction / road widening / storm drainage line improvements going in already.

Default Retire in Punta Gorda

You should check out the Deep Creek area in Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte. My husband and I have been living here almost ten years now, and because of the real estate market there are a lot of nice homes for sale in your price range. Minimal deed restrictions, nice size yards, friendly people and a short drive to groceries and restaurants. Check out Craig's list for Punta Gorda/Deep Creek.

Still very "small townish"
