Which forum is North Port part of? We are looking at North Port because of the prices of homes being better for what you get. Also it seems that homes are not quite as cheap as they were a few months ago. Is the economy turning a corner there? We want to move there now in prep for our retirement in ten years. This way we can have a home and the taxes will even be locked in at no more than 3% each year in the event prices go up. We visited a few months ago and I think we will like it. We looked at the Legacy trail and it looks like a great place to ride bikes for a day, we love museums, the beach and jazz and blues. I hope there is some shows where there are some shows to go see.

Welcome, Road Warrior. Prices are certainly higher but it is still worth checking out what is available. Houses in NP are much newer, in the main, to those in Venice and it is a quick 20 minute drive up 41 or I75. One thing to remember is that you have to be resident at your Florida address to be protected by the Homestead law. Good luck with your search.

Us North Porters post in both forums but we are actually NORTH Port Charlotte and much closer to Port Charlotte!

We bought our home here in North Port last January and moved in this past June. We love it here, nice quiet neighborhood and friendly people. Close enough to the beaches and everything else.

There are quite a few homes in our neighborhood that are empty, guessing the banks will be putting them on the market before too long. All built I think 2005 or newer, lots of NICE homes too.

North Port is located in Sarasota County. It is the southernmost part. But it is actually closer to Port Charlotte. The prices of homes in North Port have gone up since last year and the inventory of homes has gone down. There are still some great deals to be found though. The 3% cap on taxes is for homeowners in Florida who file Homestead Exemption. Here is the web site from the state that explains the exemptions: FL Dept Rev - Property Tax Exemptions and Discounts

What kind of shows are you looking for? There is a North Port Performing Arts Center right next to North Port High School. North Port Performing Arts Center: Home

There is also the Charlotte Players in Port Charlotte. 10 minutes from North Port. About the Charlotte Players

There is the Charlotte Performing Arts Center in Punta Gorda. 20 minutes from North Port. Charlotte Performing Arts Center

If you want bigger name show performances you could go to Sarasota or Ft Myers 45 minutes away. Ft Myers - Lee Civic Center - Lee Civic Center - Home of the Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair
Sarasota Performing Arts Center - SPAC–Saratoga Performing Arts Center

This entire area has a lot of festivals and fairs and things to do at the parks. North Port is not as busy as the larger cities and it is a quick drive to the beaches or just about anything else - restaurants, shopping, mall, grocery store, etc.

Beings how you can't tell the difference when driving up 41 whether you're still in Port Charlotte, or have crossed into North Port, I'd say this forum. However, a lot of people post in both places.

Agree, a lot of people use both places, but North Port has more in common with the area this board covers than Sarasota. ALL of SWFL Rocks - so where ever you land, you'll find you like it here.

Feel free to ask questions - we all like to help. Oh. . . . and drink Yeungling!
