How does a CD member manage to get a private email address? I thought this was private information. I just received a rather tacky email from another member.

Thanks.

Clicking on your username brings up a menu, one option is "send email to Old Gal". They won't know what your address is, as it goes through CD, but if you reply to their email then they can see your address.

You can turn off this feature in user settings. Mine is off.

Go here: https://www.city-data.com/forum/usercp.php and click on "edit options" under "settings and options". Then scroll down and uncheck "Receive Email from Other Members".

I think if someone is on a message you have posted a reply to, clicks on your name in the message then clicks on the third choice down the system sends you the email and the sender does not get your address. I might be wrong, but when I just looked at it, that seemed to be how it would work.

Just read HR's message and he is right. See the difference between your & my listing. I must have turned that option off when I joined.

It lists CD, but the member also isn't accepting emails through CD and sent me their personal email address. Is there any kind of policy against members doing this sort of thing. Truthfully, I'm quite surprised that this happened.

Just wanted to edit to thank everyone for the quick replies.

You also have the option if reporting them to CD

I had never looked at any of that before. I went to "edit options", and the default setting for everything seems to be "off".
