We spent 4 weeks in Port Charlotte this past Jan/Feb. While we were there we contacted some friends from our local area who we knew were visitiing as well. They in turned informed us about other couples who were also in PC. And so it went, with each new "so you're here too" discovery, we learned about yet more locals who were there.

What's more, since we got back home we've spoken of our visit to some other friends only to find out that THEY too were in PC when we were, and they knew of still others that were in that area!

Does PC have some kind of "human NY magnet" that attracts all these NY (upstate) snowbirds??

I moved here from NY. We used to come down every year for vacation. I was a teacher and came on my winter and spring breaks to visit family. My parents live in Punta Gorda. We moved to Port Charlotte. Don't miss the snowy winters in NY one bit. Or the darkness and rain. It seems like you get 6 months of winter there. I get year round summer here. Can't beat it.

I came from NJ...I have met many many people from NJ/NY/PA here...luckily, only the nice ones . Seems like this area draws the laid back people, the east coast draws the trouble makers from up there.

Saw a plate from British Columbia the other day followed by one from Alaska. Can't call that a stampede but it could happen.

I thought they all go to NC and FL. At least it seems like they all are coming down here. The entire deep eastside of Charlotte is nothing but black folks from NYC. I never meet someone not from NYC or NJ over there.

I'm from WNY, but most people here are from the Mid-West - Michigan, Wisconsin, and many people from PA are showing up lately! :-)
