HI everyone-

I have been posting in the Naples forum because we were very serious about a move there. My husband took a job in Fort Myers which we have realized is about 30 minutes from either North Naples or Punta Gorda. We were curious about your area.

How do you think it compares to Naples?
Do you have a good medical system and hospitals?
Hows the shopping etc?
Night life for 20-30 yr olds?

Ive done some looking around and Punta Gorda looks to be a beautiful town with canal homes -- thats way out of our reach in Naples so we thought we'd consider PG. thanks!

Yes, Punta Gorda is a beautiful town with downtown shops and restaurants and lots of events at the local parks along the Harbor. There are plenty of medical facilities locally. Punta Gorda has one hospital and Port Charlotte has two. You would have to drive to Ft. Myers or Port Charlotte for a shopping mall. Punta Gorda is less expensive than Naples and less crowded. There are no beaches in Punta Gorda. It is about 45 minutes from any Gulf beaches. But the Harbor and Peace River provide plenty of enjoyment. There are some great small bars in Punta Gorda where you can hang out for nite life. There are a few sports bars in Port Charlotte as well. There is a comedy club in Port Charlotte not too far from Punta Gorda. There are social and sports clubs to join for meeting new people.

Here are some links in Punta Gorda where you can learn more about the area.

Naples has more shopping and restaurants but besides being more expensive it also has a lot more traffic. Both towns are nice. I'm in PG and I have a sister in Naples so I go down there alot. Like Tamre said Naples is on the beach. They also have a trolley that can take you to the beach so you can avoid the parking problem. PG downtown is quant and casual while Naples is posh. Both have a significant older population.
