Oh, Joy! Just in time for Christmas.
I am looking forward to those tomatoes, though.

Well, I have to retract my bad words and thoughts. The big Waste Management truck did come and took it all away. A good job done and a nice guy as well. Evidently there are three trucks that pick up for Charlotte County. The system did indeed change, as Mik reported and we are stuck with them for years. At least the employees who do the actual work are pleasant. He even stopped and picked up a pile at another house on the street where the owners have not yet come down for the Winter.
So, all is well that ends well, a Merry Christmas and to all a good night.

So much for fresh tomatoes....

A few months ago, I had a pile of palm branches piled in the yard. One morning I saw a truck down the street with a crane-like arm picking up branches from a neighbors house. I walked down and talked with the driver, who said he'd come up and pick mine up too, which he did . About a month later, I had more palm branches which I piled out at the curb on trash pickup day, thinking the same truck will be coming by. I came home later to find a single branch left at the curb with a nasty-gram from the county, scolding me for not bundling them up . Evidently, the county will pick up smaller, bundled yard waste but the truck with the crane is by request only.

This is correct. We are allowed two bulky-item pick ups per year (requiring the claw truck). You have to call to schedule this, and they track it to make sure you don't surpass the limit, heaven forbid!
What a lot of folks don't realize is that we have a transfer station up on Kenilworth (Murdock) where you can take as much yard debris and various disposables as you want, for free.

By the way, the two pick ups a year for bulk waste runs from Oct 1 to Sept 30. We made the mistake of thinking it was a calendar year and missed out on a pick up. Charlotte County actually has a lot of options for the removal of yard/other waste. Besides the bundling they will take away anything you can stuff in the big green bin. Evidently we can get another big bin if we ask for it but I don't know if it costs extra.
Good to know about the drop off station also.

I've never bundled anything by the road. I just cut it down to 3ft (approx) lengths and stack it up. They always take it. Normal routine clippings just go in a trash can and out by the road. They don't care what you put it in. They'll still take it. My neighbor uses recycle tubs. As long as they can lift it, they'll take it.
