I work in the sporting industry and tampa bay rays have their minor league team in port charlotte... to work in sports you have to be inclined to move anywhere

Ive tried to get in with the Heat or the Rays but so many applicants apply for those jobs that sometimes my application is never even opened.

You DEFINITELY won't be making the drive from Ft Myers/Cape Coral to the ball park in PC in 25 min. You're talking a 45 min drive AT BEST. With traffic November-April, might as well put that at an hour or better.
If the job is already a done deal, then I'd have to say get used to a slower night life (nothing wrong with that). There are lots of fun places to hang out and meet people, it's just that by 11pm most are starting to clear out.

Didnt accept it yet... I have another offer from the Chicago Bulls which fits me way better and is only 5.5 hours from Cleveland.. but ironically pays a lot less than the P.C. job.

That is ironic - the cost of living in Chicago is about double what it is here....and oh yeah, Illinois is bankrupt, so guess which way their taxes will be going soon. Sorry the nightlife news hasn't been good - if you were a crazed fisherman like the rest of us, you'd be all set. And HH is right on the money about your FM-PC drive, it's an hour.

People in Chicago don't snowmobile. They boat. They're kinda next to a big lake right there. LOL Also, they are not bankrupt but their taxes are pretty high. Illinois has a state income tax and the sales tax for Cook County is crazy. Florida is much lower by comparison - but there are also less services and not much to the services that are there. Also, no hurricanes in Illinois and there are tornado sirens to alert everyone to take shelter for a tornado. So the weather thing is most definitely debatable. Every place has trade-offs. Chicago has a great night life and the elevated train takes you everywhere.

The Stone Crabs do a lot in the Charlotte County community. I've been really impressed with them and you'd be lucky to be a part of that organization. Knowing you have to drive to the stadium really does underscore that Lee County is out of the question. You'd have a much longer commute than you're bargaining for.

If you decide to come here and start shopping for an apartment, stay out of Charlotte Harbor. Lakes of Tuscana in Port Charlotte is a nice, clean apartment community. You'd take Veterans Blvd to the stadium and you'd be close to the I-75 onramp to go have fun in other parts of Florida. There are also some nice apartment complexes in Punta Gorda that have great views of the harbor. You can spot a lot of what I'm talking about from Google searches and using Google maps.

One thing you may enjoy is being able to jog across the Gilchrist Bridge, which spans the Charlotte Harbor/Peace River to connect Port Charlotte to Punta Gorda. Chicago can't compete with that view. lol

Technically bankrupt, no. But $96 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and the lowest credit rating of the 50 states is close enough. They just raised their income tax rate 2 yrs ago, and they have no choice but to raise more money. There's no way they'll cut pension benefits for public union employees. I used to live near Chicago, and it's a fantastic city, but if I moved back, it would have to be for more money, not less. And of course, that doesn't change the fact that PC/PG doesn't have Chicago-style nightlife :-)

I've closed plenty of bars here at 2 or 3am, so there is a night life. Not as much as other places, but you'd be a big fish in a small pond, especially if you have a job .
