We have been healthier since moving down here. Honestly, I think it's a combination of the vitamin D from the sun and the fact that we're not all cooped up during cold and flu season... we tend to be outdoors, where the germs have a good chance of blowing away rather than blowing up your nose. Or maybe it's just coincidence... or that I have a bad memory and have just forgotten being sick here. I really think that the more time you spend outside, the healthier you'll be.

We have also been healthier down here. I ALWAYS got two nasty colds per year, and in 3.5 yrs here, only two total i think. Even our 3yr old is rarely sick, and he goes to daycare full time! But, viruses are still around. Nobody is completely immune.

We tell our patients that they should get your flu shot late September thru early November. The flu vaccine takes about 14-21 days to become fully effective as that is the time it takes your body to build up the antibodies.

The major flu season is December thru February thats why you want to get the vaccine around October. If you want more info on the flu or any other vaccines go to www.cdc.gov.

Remember you will not get the flu from the flu vaccine and you can get the flu any time even if you get the vaccine. The vaccine only protects from about 4 different strains that the CDC thinks will be a major player that year.

And now you know and knowing is half the battle.
