Wondering if I should post in here or another sub-forum.

North Port is the southern most city in Sarasota County but we are also adjacent to Port Charlotte so either here or the Sarasota forum.

Yes, this forum is fine for North Port. North Port and Port Charlotte are right next to each other. North Port is located in Sarasota County, but it is much closer to Port Charlotte than the city of Sarasota.

North Port, is a shortened name for North Port Charlotte, so this forum may actually be better. Both forums are great and have fantastic helpful posters. Our forum was recently separated from their forum, so we can better discuss our area, which is close by, but different than the Sarasota forum.

I have good friends on both forums. Welcome, and feel free to ask all the questions you have.

I worked all over Virginia, MD, and all the areas around there, so I can help you with comparative questions as well. For instance, you may be surprised that Northern VA and MD are hotter and more humid typically than this area during the summer months, not just warmer in the winter months.

Thanks all and Big House - well Big House you really know where I am coming from - here in the NOVA bubble- land of traffic and high housing prices.

How is Florida? How long have you been down there?

I cant wait to get to the beach - I am from Jersey and since living in Virginia I miss the beach sooooo bad - it takes at least 3 hours in horrible traffic to get to the beach here. People say I will get sick of the beach living in Florida - but I dont think so.

Will be down there in 3 weeks - Yeah!

I moved here from NJ back in 1999. North Port is about 30 minutes drive to Englewood beach, which is the closest beach. When I first moved down here I went to the beach all the time, now, not very often. But I love the area, the weather, the beautiful sunsets, and not so much traffic.

The wife and I just bought a house down there last August and can't wait to retire and start living in it!! It's rented out for now. It will be late 2014 before we can move.

I am from the Baltimore area, and have been here a little over a year. I do not get to the beach as much as I thought I would- but since I have a pool that I can walk out my back door and enjoy almost year round- I am satisfied with that (plus I still work full time). Last year during the summer I would post on FB, for my family and friends to come visit me because it was cooler here then up there.
Traffic- when people here say the traffic is bad- I laugh. When I can go 75mph on 75 at 5pm, I ask where is the traffic. In Baltimore you cannot go 60 on 695/95 at anytime except maybe 3a.
Just be prepared for a much slower life here (except on 75 LOL). Remember that most people here are retired and have all day to go to the grocery store or Walmart.
I am very happy that my husband and I made this move- if I could only get my son to move here, then it would be fantastic!!
