that's strange, I got my initial license after about 1 month of residency (this was in 2009). The clerk never said anything about it, and the computer system didn't reject me when he ran my drivers license info. I wonder if this is a newer rule (of course to suck even more money from new residents by making them get the non-resident license first).

Not too sure when they enacted the "resident" 6-month rule, but it is here in the "myfwc" website:

For the purposes of hunting or fishing in Florida, a Resident is defined as:
Any person who has resided in Florida for 6 continuous months prior to the issuance of a license and who claims Florida as his/her primary residence; or
Any member of the United States Armed Forces who is stationed in Florida (includes spouse and dependent children residing in the household).

I just didn't fish for the first 6 or so months. Heck, I was too busy getting the house ready for living in with painting, lanai repairs, etc..

I had to wait 6 months, also back in early 2009 so it is nothing new. I did get a annual non-resident license for $47, which might have been what you got? $47 for the whole year is not bad so I tell anyone that visits for more than a week a year just to get that....much better deal than $17 a day!

Nope, i got the $17 resident license. I would never pay $47 for a fishing license.

It was mentioned that a Charlotte County resident, more than 6 months, can get a 'free' license if they are disabled. Does anyone know their definition of 'disabled'?

I should have added that the web site is not very clear on their interpretation of 'disabled' so I am wondering if anyone has gone through the process.

Yeah, $17 a day is for out of state visitors. Residents pay $17 a year for a saltwater license.

Not ironic at all - they can't charge you to vote, so they don't care.

Really strange that the state would expect you to change your driver's license and vehicle registrations over to Florida and still expect you to wait six months to get a FL resident's fishing license. Glad it was not that way when I got here.

I have a residence shore license that did not cost me any money. I just went into the town hall and they issued one. You can get the same license at Walmart as long as you show them your Florida license. Of coarse its from Jacksonville fl. but now I moving to Port Charlotte. Hopefully it is still good for there.
