There are no swimming signs. Sometimes common sense has to take over. Let's see lakes, Florida and gators a recipe for an accident. A dam shame a child had to lose his life and the parents has to witness this.

It's a horrible thing. If I were a prosecutor I would be seriously considering filing charges against the parents.

Evidently 2 of their children were walking in the water at the edge !

I cannot understand why there was a sign saying, 'No swimming' ... yet no sign saying ALLIGATORS ! The lake where I had a condo in SW FL had 'Alligators' signs about every 50 feet around the perimeter; and it was a large lake. We even had a small alligator that got in the pool one day ! evidently it came sauntering from the culvert across the road, and found its way under the pool gate or fence.

What a gruesome horrible tragedy, my heart goes out to these parents. But ! they were not using caution and certainly were not using their biggest organs -- their brains!

Lawsuits all around.

It doesn't matter....NO! means NO!

There doesn't need to be an explanation why.

If someone went swimming at a location that had a no swimming sign and that person drowned.

Would it be the fault of the property owner because the sign didn't state that there was a risk no drowning?

Of course not, because No means No

Darwin works in mysterious ways

Gary

As my husband says "What is it that you don't understand about no?"

The lagoon could have dangerous bacteria or something not visible that could have killed the children in it instead of an alligator.

I agree. Looking at pictures the resort created a big inviting beach area and light it up at night. Whether the child was wading in a foot of water or standing on the beach at the edge of the water the same thing could occur. Basically, they created an inviting area for people to go up to the water's edge and they don't post signs that there are alligators? You can say the parents were naïve but so was who ever designed that resort.

The lodge or hotel will be held liable Gary. It is their responsibility to provide a safe environment within the boundaries of their property. The beach at that lake itself is termed an 'attractive nuisance'; and because there may never have been an alligator sighting, that is not going to be a defense. Not having 'beware of alligators' signs even if no one has ever seen one, means nothing.

This will most likely settle out of court to avoid publicity.

The parents will suffer living with this forever, and will need trauma and grief counseling forever.

I sign would be good but also put up a fence. I really do not understand creating a man-made lake and beach and then simply putting up a no swimming sign.
