Another post regarding generators made me think about power outages during lightning storms and or possibly some other inclement weather other than the obvious hurricanes. In North Port and surrounding areas, when there is a lightning storm and/or heavy rain storms, does the power go out? And usually, for how long?

We have been here two and a half years and so far no power outages during storms other than the occasional off for less than a minute then right back on. There have been some good thunderstorms but so far so good on keeping power.

We have lived here 9 years and only used the generator two times and both times, by the time we got the generator started, the power came back on right away. Most storms or other causes of power outages only last a minute or a few minutes. We have had the power go out for an hour or two at times. But the generator was not needed. So, it is not a big issue where you would need one very often.

We've been in North Port for 6 + years and never had the power go out for more than a second or two.

Would it be worth getting a surge protector for the whole house and for certain outlets in the home?
