There are a lot of nice areas in Port Charlotte. It depends on what you are looking for and your price range. Without knowing your criteria, it is hard to recommend areas that fit your needs.

79 rontonda circle is a home we love, something like that, dont mind a fixer upper as long no structural damage. 175,000 or less, covered screened pool, 4 br, at least 2 bth, forclosure or hud home ok, no flood zone, 3br ok. Mostly we want warm weather, lol

In that price range 4 bed with a pool and not in a flood zone, you will pretty much only find homes that are in a non-deed restricted area and older homes. Right now there are 12 homes with your criteria in this area. You may have to look at other options such as 3 bed with a den or no pool. You will find more newer homes in North Port than Port Charlotte. I ran the search for Port Charlotte, North Port, Englewood, Rotonda and Punta Gorda. Click the link below to view the options. You mentioned you liked the home in Rotonda. Rotonda/Rotonda West is in a Flood Zone.

Hi,

I would listen carefully to mylittletyguy. Beside employment issues there's this happening at the corporation's hospital in Venice, just up the road from Port Charlotte:

Venice hospital faces audit by state regulators | HeraldTribune.com

Regarding housing:

If you look on www.rent.com the cheapest Punta Gorda 1 bedroom 682 sq ft apartment is $606.

There's also a 3 bd 1 bath 816 sq ft house for $750 (the ad from the realtor (no uppercase "r") says, "This is a magical house - bigger on the inside than looks like on the outside.") LOL. Oh and the ad also mentions proudly that "We accept Section 8 housing vouchers."

The first listing (cheapest first) for Pt Charlotte is a 1/1 1100 sq ft apt for $939.

Want to buy in Punta Gorda.

Here's a condo listed for sale on Zillow:

820 Kings Ct Apt A (condo) Punta Gorda 33950
1/1 600 sq ft
$70,000.

In Port Charlotte a 3/3 can be had for $150,000.

Regarding homeowners insurance
A 3/2 in PC ran about $1400 and if you want flood insurance figure on around $300 more. This is for replacement value of about $130,000. Now to be fair prices vary widely dependent on several factors.

I'd suggest this tool to calculate how much more money you'll need to live in these florida towns:
Cost of Living Wizard | Salary.com

Oh and make sure you get uninsured motorist coverage for your vehicles because there's plenty of people driving around with auto insurance.

And if you buy a home that has a homeowner's association they can tell you what color you can't paint your house, what kind of flag you can fly on your flagpole, etc.

Tennessee is one of the most beautiful states I've spent time in. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE MOVING HERE and most importantly. COME DOWN AND SPEND A MONTH HERE TO see the behavior of people (IMHO don't expect the curteous and considerate people you live near in TN), what there is to do, etc. If you come in the summer you won't see much traffic, but by November through April, the population can increase by 50 percent. The roads are jammed and you can wait in line an hour on friday and saturday nights to eat. BUT as I said, everyone has different opions. Come spend 2 weeks in August and 2 weeks in January before you decide.

Lastly, I'm sure you've heard Florida' nickname "The Sunshine State." Well how about the humidity and RAIN state - 112-year-old rain record broken in Fort Myers - NBC-2.com WBBH News for Fort Myers, Cape Coral & Naples, Florida
