Where are good places to beach a 24 ft pontoon boat in Charlotte Harbor or Peace River? I've been to the sand bar at Cayo Costa, but it's a good 30 - 45 minute trip from BSI (one way). Can I run up on the small beach at Port Charlotte Beach Park? Suggestions please.

Head up the Peace River. Once you get past I-75 there are some really nice beaches, very private and clean about a mile or so up. Our boat drafts too much water to do it but going up with friends (flats boat), it is really great up in there. Though I am too freaked about by alligators to swim there.

Thanks so much! My pontoon drafts 12 - 15 inches so I should be good up there.

I've seen pontoons beached at the Port Charlotte beach..never done it in mine, just because that's where I usually put in..been up past the 75 bridges once or twice..almost got stuck up there but managed to back myself out..watch where the other boats go up there and keep a sharp eye out..

You'll see lots of boats up the river at every sand spit, so go early if on the weekend.

We were up the river on Sunday, and passed a bunch of people stopped on a sandbar in the middle of the river. A lot of people pull up on shore and swim, kids, dogs, and all. There's even one spot with a rope swing. BUT the standing in the middle of the river freaked me out a little bit. Are they crazy, or am I just overly afraid of gators and sharks?

Coming from the landlocked west, I get it. Those critters scare me more than the bears, moose and lions back home!
