Our over the stove microwave needs to be on its own circuit. It blows the circuit it is on now as it is on the same one w/the lights in the kitchen. I just got a bid to do this and it costs more than the microwave did. Any references for a reasonably priced electrician would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is not an easy in/out job. Definitely more than the cost of the microwave! I'm guessing $300-400. They have to go in your attic and pull a new wire from the electrical panel, up the wall, through the attic, and down the wall behind the microwave. Then hook up the new wire to a new 20A breaker (assuming you have an opening in the panel), and cut a hole in your wall for the new outlet box, and finally wire the new outlet and install cover plate. 2-3 hour job + $50 in materials.

Ok. Yes the bid was just over $300.00. The material charge was over $100.00 though.

That is a great price for the amount of work needed. You can't compare it to the cost of the microwave. They have absolutely nothing in common. My guess on materials was assuming your kitchen was close to the panel. The further away, the more wire needed. Copper Romex is VERY expensive now.

People always fail,to include the price of proper insurance and licensing when they say a job is too expensive. Most have know idea what it really costs to run a business!
