Travelassie, some of the area already has gravity sewer. The new sewer systems are going to primarily be LPS systems since they are cheaper to install. If you have a lot on an existing sewer line, they are not going to change gravity lines to LPS to the best of my knowledge...but that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

That makes sense, if the water treatment is basically done via an LPS system on the property its also less work for the municipal sewage plant, I would think. I would imagine that there are a number of regular septic systems out there- far as I know that's all there are out this way-out in the boonies.

I had also read somewhere that Charlotte County's long term goals are to put municipal water and sewage lines for the entire county, although at the rate they are moving that could be sometime into the next century or so by time they reach that goal!
Made me wonder where we might be on those plans- can't see it happening very soon as we are approximately 12 miles outside downtown PG in a not very populated area (Peace River Shores) . In the event that ever happens I can see we would need an LPS system as our property is lower than the road and otherwise the stuff would have to flow uphill to get to the sewage lines. Oh joy.

Well, went down to the county environmental health dept to find where the plans show the septic system. Seems they built the lanai on top of the septic tank if it is where the plans show it. Woops. This may get interesting on the change-over.

Oops is right!!! When we got ready to sell our house in Georgia, we decided to have the septic tank pumped before putting the house on the market....one less thing for the sellers to ask for at the last minute. Well, turned outfit was a good thing we did!!!! Our septic tank was directly under the front sidewalk!!

They had to bust up about 8 ft of sidewalk to access the tank. We had a "chimney" put in over the access door, and then put 4 pavers in the sidewalk so the tank could be easily maintained in the future. We had to disclose it, of course, but it didn't look too bad and the ultimate buyers were ok it. We were so glad that whole mess didn't hit us during the inspection phase!!!

Update: lanai was installed at the same time as the home was built per tax records. So I got out there with a sharpened metal rod and a couple of vice grips to make a probe. They moved the tank! Now on the side of the home. Wont have to dig up the lanai, will be an easy connection.

If your home was built after 1972, the Environmental Health unit in Building B of the Murdock Center will have the records of where the system should be located. No charge to look up the file, print off the forms.

^^That's good news! Up here, tanks have to be pumped every two years, so no chance of forgetting where it is! Mr.cool built a waterfall around our's, but left it accessible without too much work.

Construction update: got a letter yesterday. June 30 they are having a couple of presentations about the project, schedule. Connections to the system to start next spring. First portion will be essentially that area west of Tarpon, as well as that triangular portion from Orange north to 41.

Letter didn't have anything about the scheduling for the remainder of the area.

Update: rolled out the ditching equipment, started laying pipe today on Tarpon. Closed it and was detouring traffic off Tarpon.
