Thanks for all the info folks. Our seawall is 135', but not a tip lot. Even with the length of the wall we will have to place the lift strategically because it is pretty shallow right by the wall and a big rock at one end. But on a plus side we are on a sailboat canal with out any bridges and quick access to Alligator Creek. Where can one look at the regs to get an idea of our options? Hubby is a bit perplexed by my insistence on getting the lift before the boat. But we don't have a vehicle to take a boat in and out of the water...and no intention of getting one! LOL We don't want a boat so large that we can't afford to use it frequently. We have a neighbor with a BIG boat... have never seen it wet.

Trust me, you'll be wasting your money on a 15k lift. 10k would even be overkill for a 22ft deck boat, but will be versatile for future boats. A 15k lb lift will store a 40ft+ cruiser. Go 8 or 10k. I've bought all of mine off craigslist and had a local contractor install them. Big savings.

My canal can be shallow in the winter (as many waterways will be), so in this house, I wanted a strap lift instead of bunks. Bunks need an additional 10-12' of water depth to float the boat. Straps need nothing. Just something to think about...

Right, I forgot about the keystone lots on the canal ends with the short seawalls. Some of them have a hard time getting just one lift in. I think all regular lots are 80' or more.

Yes I believe you are correct with that.

Many thanks. I forgot about the 80' rule.

Interesting.. What is the "45 degree rqmt?" also how far into the canal can the lift go?

Stand on your seawall at the property line facing straight out to the canal. Turn toward your property 45 degrees. Your lift cannot extend beyond the imaginary line you are looking out on. I forget how far out you can extend - maybe 18 or 20 ft - there's a diagram online somewhere, I just can't find it at the moment. I know they're strict about it. Our neighbor put in a new lift for his big cat, and they made him cut into his dock for the shoreside pilings to meet the rqmt.

In Charlotte Co, your outside piling cannot be more than 25% of the width of the canal. So if your canal is 80ft wide, that's a max of 20ft out you can go. For larger waterways, I believe it's still 25ft max

yes I was allowed 25% out and if I remember it was 15 feet from the property line I had to stay back.
