We are all familiar with Fishin' Franks in terms of fishing gear. Now the Ace Hardware (formerly Morton's) on 41 has a complete fishing section, including rods and reels. Haven't had time to browse, but might be an alternative to Franks as that was their intention.

Not surprising. They've carried marine gear for a long time and pretty attractive pricing on things over West Marine of course. Bilge pumps, anti-corrosion spray, trailer accessories are all things I've purchased there. But they'll not gave the advice and education one goes to Franks for...ever. But I'll look at the gear...thanks.

One thing for sure, if you buy it at ACE you will have the highest price part that can be found. (:

They had what I perceive as some very expensive reels $300+ How can they compete with Fishin Franks???
I use them when I need odd ball things or single items ( better found at older long establish stores... ) and when I want answers or ideas not just parts and pieces..

I find their prices to be pretty reasonable on the things I buy there. Especially those boats parts.

And a MUCH larger selection! I used to go to Morton's exclusively. Usually 3-4 times per week. Now that we're in Englewood, I'm 1/2 mile from Gulf Coast True Value. I only go to the blue & orange stores if I absolutely have to. NEVER go to West Marine. That place is a joke.

I'm heading to Ace now. I need a stainless steel 5mm x 80 pitch countersunk head machine screw, and moly lube. I won't even waste my time trying to find them a hd/Lowes.

Their boat section is limited but much cheaper than West Marine. I buy my zincs and other odds and ends there.

Fishing stuff? I'll check it out but will probably still buy everything from FF.

Just got back from Ace. Next weekend will be their official Grand Opening and have a few good sales:

Friday: 50% off any one item under $30

Saturday: 20% off entire purchase + free food

Sunday: 20-50% off entire purchase (scratch off coupon at checkout)

They have coupons there now, not sure if they will be needed for the sales.

The fishing section was much bigger than I expected, and it seems they added more boating stuff too. The whole store has been re-arranged (pain to find stuff at first). All the old hard to find things all seem to still be there....hope it stays that way.
