First hurricane season here. Been watching this with interest. We're in the cone. We're out of the cone. We're in the cone.

I hope we get a hurricane here so I can test Ron White's theory about standing in the middle of a one, "It's not THAT the wind is blowin'. It's WHAT the wind is blowin'.

At this point, there is no cone. It's nowhere close to being an organized system. Looks like a nice weekend! Just the normal afternoon showers. Great time to get out on the water!

Trust me Jim, there is a bunch of us who hope you never have to stand in the eye of a hurricane anything close to Charley. You being a new neighbor means we would be in that eye too.

Welcome to the area.

Just when you thought we were safe, ZIKANADO!
Tropical storm would worsen Florida's Zika outbreak

Default Generator recomendation

In the market for a new genny, never owned one before. Would a 3400 be big enough. 3400 may not be big enough to do the AC, but a few fans and the refrigerator .

What's the budget? This is a big decision that you want to get right.

When I picked, what was important to me was to be able to run my two refrigerators, freezer, fans and outlets in the daytime but I really wanted to sleep in AC st night. I went with a 7000/8400 Black Max by Honda and spent $1k on it. Ironically, as I prepare to leave FL after nearly 9 years, I sold it with 5 hours on it for $600.

You'll also want to plan to have an electrician install a direct connect to feed your breaker panel from the generator. This way you don't have to run extensions cords (and bugs) into the house. Your power needs become as close to normal as you can get. Just be sure you are clear on the requirement you never have your main breaker on while running the genset. Otherwise you are back feeding the serice line from your house to the pole outside and you could unknowingly injure or kill a utility worker. That would be real bad on him and your homeowners insurance.

You can get a 15,000 Generac for $7-800 that will handle the AC and fridge.

Invest 99 is now a Tropical Depression, forcast to become a Tropical Storm. Cone of uncertainty is wide and very uncertain. This one has the capability to make the rare hook move back toward our coast. Stay tuned.

Forecast is for 2-3" of rain, about it. If up towards the panhandle, may get more rain, wind.
