wouldn't something like that get held up by the feds or at least the state, regardless of what the city wants?

You betcha. It's a LONG ways from becoming reality. Locals can pass anything. It's the State & Federal gov't red tape that will get ya.

kinda what i figured. we began our fl house-hunting journey in florida about 3 years ago, and punta gorda was among the first stops. back then, we walked into a public open house in pgi south where the realtor said any day now, there will be an official cut through to alligator creek and home values will soar, better get in early!

riiiiiight......

Oh I'm sure. Just like I hear other agents frequently saying a beach re-nourishment is coming soon on Manasota Key north and values will jump. Riiiiight. Yeah we'll see about that.
I find it best to stick with the KNOWN FACTS, not embellish (or flat out LIE) about anything, especially anything government related. That's why my clients love me :-) No BS, no sugarcoating. I tell it how it is.

Those of us who bought our property with access to Alligator Creek will be the biggest losers if the cut through happens. It will probably triple the usage. Truly a loss for those currently using Alligator Creek. I kind of doubt that we will choose to meander through PGI to get to the harbor, but that's one reason we didn't buy there. But money has a way....

Actually many in PGI have access to AC through poachers cut. You are just limited in size. I have seen 24 footers going through there.
