Love this area, but it seems a little sleepy with little or no shopping nearby

That's what folks LOVE about this area. Little/no commercialization, with the exception of a couple marinas with restaurants, gas station, grocery store and a small strip mall. Placida is not a town per se, rather a zip code. You have numerous beaches a short distance away. If you need malls & downtown shopping, Port Charlotte, Englewood & Venice are short drives (10-30 mins)

define Placida

it can include

Rotonda Meadows
Rotonda Sands
the area around Gasparilla Marina and the entry to Boca,
then i'm not quite sure where it actually stops heading up Placida rd !!!

we are ten minutes from Publix, some takaway joints, a post office, the odd restaurant, Boca

and its nice and quiet !!

I guess what I am wondering is does it feel lonely and isolated? No doubt, there is a natural beauty to the area.

It depends on the person. I've had some clients that felt isolated, but most fall in love with it. Everyone is different. Only seeing it for yourself will provide your conclusion.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I was born and raised in the Placida/Englewood area. Ive also lived in other nearby areas- Sarasota, Port Charlotte, North Port. I think the Placida area has the best of all of the areas-low traffic, beautiful beaches, not far from shopping. The Dearborn St area has quite a few things to do-festivals, live music and farmers markets. Most of the restaurants and stores are mom and pop shops.

Heres a blog I wrote about the Placida/Englewood area, a few months back: //www.city-data.com/blogs/blog3...lewood-fl.html
