I am trying to purchase a house on a canal with a seawall off the Myakka in Charlotte County. There is quite a bit of sand buildup in front of the seawall and around the dock. It looks to me to be an excavator taking a few scoops would fix it. One neighbor says no big deal. Another says huge problems.
Does anyone know what is involved with permitting if any and how big of a deal it is to get done. Who are the companies in the area that could do it?

Looking forward to getting a boat in the water.

Thank You

Any of the dock & lift companies can permit this for you. It's usually not a big deal as long as you don't have mangroves in front of the seawall. The buildup is from sand leaching from the seawall panel joints and weep holes and it will eventually return, but it will take a long time to build up again. They have to be careful not to go too deep with the digging though. Those panels are generally only 8ft long, and they need support on both sides.

If you have a gas pressure washer, buy some extension poles and do it yourself .

Personally, I rent a 2" trash pump from my local True Value for half day and do my own minor dredging. Now many of my neighbors do the same thing under their lift beams. Just have to figure out what to do with the spoil.

Thanx for all the replies. The amount is much more than a trash pump job. I have done that on holding ponds. I would not be a very well liked new neighbor running a trash pump everyday for a month.
All the big contractors in the area doing dredging don't want to bother as it is too small. I guess I will try a regular excavation contractor.

I have used Charlotte County Seawalls - I just waited until they had another job close to mine.

Tie off your boat to your dock, start it up, and let it idle in gear for a while. Faster than a trash pump.
