Who does the water meter reading in Port Charlotte???Is it done electronically or is it estimated. The reason I ask is because I have gotten the same bill of EXACTLY 102.07 four times already. We have no pool, well water for lawn and three of us in the house.

It's read electronically. Each meter has a transponder, so they drive around and collect the data. you're charged per thousand gallons, so if your bill has been the same (very common) then your monthly consumption is consistent. Also, most don't know and don't care, but I always point it out because I'm OCD. In the water meter box, if you flip the lid on the meter dial, there is a small red triangle dial. That is your leak detector. If you have even a small drip, this small dial will move. I check mine once a month.... just in case. One time I found a small leak. Ended up being underground near a sidewalk so I was able to fix it easily.

Thanks Harbor,I do check the leak meter(watch out for fire ants and palmetto bugs). With a consistent reading like that we surely have no leaks. We have overhead plumbing so a leak would become obvious very quickly.

I'll trade you your PC bill for my PGI bill. Ours runs about $150 per month and we are there part time. I pay abou 175 per Q here in NJ

Our county water bill in Port Charlotte averages $35 a month with septic. If you a have sewer too, they are included in the same bill I believe. So that might account for the higher amount.

Correct plus you pay for sewer on all water including irrigation. I was used to Cape Coral with separate irrigation water. PG is very expensive though on their water bills compared to many other areas.

Unless the leak was underground between the meter and entrance to the home, like mine was. A small leak would never make the ground soggy.

I don't usually check my meter but did recently on a whim just to see if the county ever progressed to the electronic meters (which they had) in my area. When I opened the lid to the meter box, the box was full of water. I could see where there was a small leak on the house side of the meter, which normally falls on the homeowner's responsibility to repair. The water company came out and made the repair, stating that it most likely occurred when the contractor replaced the meters.
