Boy, I would think heading north in the harbor on a day when the chop turned nasty in a toon or deck boat would be a hard, wet white knuckle ride?

It can be like that in any boat without a bow flare.

In the news the other day, family was out in a pontoon boat, had to get the CG to pull them off. One of the pontoons sprung a leak.

I guess there are no bilge pumps within the pontoons since they're sealed? Even my Whaler, which is "unsinkable", has a bilge pump.

Most toons have 3-5 separate chambers in each pontoon, so if one gets ruptured it won't sink. It would take a lot to puncture one in the first place.

I don't think sinking would be the issue, trying to navigate with one of the toons full of water would be next to impossible.

As stated above, the pontoons have 3-5 chambers on each pontoon. A Tritoon would have an additional 3-5 chambers and also remarkable handling, speed and comfort compared to a deck boat. I have taken a tritoon from Naples to Sarasota and it was a great ride. With all that being said, you still need to watch the weather. I would not care to be in a deck or tritoon in rough seas.

The tritoon boats are really hurting deck boat sales. You can get one with a 150 hp motor and have a low draft of less than 12" and a top speed of around 40 mph. A cruising speed of around 20-25 offers great fuel consumption. I will never own a deck boat again.

Thanx for all the info. Seems like a tri toon should handle better than an elliptical dual toon.

800 horse power, wow! Cool seeing that in Chicago, minutes from where I'm sitting.
