I wonder if they know about Mosaic's proposed phosphate mine just upstream.

I don't see Allegiant adding that to their fancy proposed plans of a blue river and beach. "18,000 acres of phosphate mining just up the river" isn't too great for marketing.

Horse Creek in Desoto County. Just off the Peace River and about 15 miles upstream from Charlotte Harbor.

Especially when (not if) they have an accident or weather issue and there's an "emergency" dump/spill and everything in Charlotte Harbor gets killed. Way to go Desoto BoCC.

They've been mining upriver for decades. This is just another new strip mine location.

And they've been killing wildlife/marine life for decades as well. They don't have the best track record... The Horse Creek site has the potential to not only kill everything downstream on the Peace, but also everything in Charlotte Harbor AND to contaminate CC's drinking water supply.

They had spills in 1967 and in 1971. There's a meeting tomorrow night and people are encouraged to show up. They fought them in the early 90's, and won. The issue is rezoning of 18000 acres from agriculture to mining.

There's a meeting going on right now in Punta Gorda at LeRoy's, and another tomorrow in Arcadia at McSwain Park. Tomorrow's rally starts at 3:00PM and goes until 6:00. The BoCC meeting starts at 6:30. We're going.

I'm not a Desoto County resident, but this is an issue that has the potential to affect everyone who lives (or vacations) downstream from Horse Creek.
