The general feeling on local facebook pages is underwhelmed to put it mildly............the 'flip' plan seems to have more merit in my eyes.

if they are relying on presale deposits to fund the build it could take a looooooooong time

Well, demographics is destiny. You got Sarasota County to the north with 400,000+ population, and Lee County to the South with 700,000+ population both growing at decent clips year to year. Little Charlotte County is at 180,000...

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that over the next 20 years, Charlotte is going to go the way of its neighbors. Too much available land ready to build and the location in Charlotte Harbor is underutilized for sure. There are lots of other places in Florida that are much larger that do not have the natural amenities as Charlotte County.

So they need to ruin those natural amenities too. Never saw an unspoiled piece of natural beauty they didn't want to cover over with concrete, condos and sell to the highest bidders.

Followed by the throngs clamoring to move to the Sunshine State to get away from their cold weather and high taxes.

Where this resort is going was already developed many decades ago. Most, if not all unspoiled areas of Charlotte Harbor are state preserves that cannot ever be developed.

Never say never. Neighbors who have lived here for the past 3 decades said that the Lea Marie Island development off of Edgewater was initially part of the preserved land. I have no doubts that with enough money funneled into the pockets of the right county rulers, any parcel of land is open to development.

I don't disagree at all, however, all of the waterfront preserve land (east & west walls of the harbor) are state-owned (Dept of Natural Resources), not county.
