Why doesn't Charlotte Co. require contractors to put in a temporary electric service when building a new home? Listening to a 3600 RPM unmuffled Harbor Freight generator all day gets old in a hurry.

This was a serious question. Other areas I have lived a temporary electric service is required to be installed. I would think in an area with houses so close it would be something that would be done. I was just wondering if anyone knew why it was not done down here.

Or you can offer to power the job site from your electric and get peace and quiet.

I am not complaining about my place. I am just asking the question.

This isn’t a complaint

Yeah, it does get irritating. I wondered myself about that. Where I'm originally from they always had a temporary service installed. A FPL thing? Cost cutting measure on the Builders part? There are builders that post on here maybe they can chime in.

After having a new home built behind me this summer the sound of generators is one I’m all too familiar with. Where I used to live in Ohio it was required that temp service be available for contractors. Not sure why any contractor wouldn’t prefer that over noisy generators. Like most things, I’m thinking it’s all related to dollars.

I personally have never looked into it as every sub uses generators and you can get a temp supply at the house once the roof is on.

to put another service in for 2 months tops is going to be expensive and to be honest getting FPL out that quick would be 'fun'

The sad part is that they could probably use a Honda or Yamaha inverter that would be a lot quieter and fuel efficient.
