Hi all. I'll start with the questions and then give you the boring personal information:

How is the traffic in Port Charlotte?

How are the hospitals in PC?

Is Salt Water access feasible for $300,000?

My wife and I are both 80's babies, no kids, social people, and our dogs are our lives. She had a job opportunity in Cape Coral. We've visited twice and while it's a decent city, the traffic is bad. We visited 2 weeks ago for the second time which is off season for tourism. Neither of us want to deal with the traffic. We decided against it.

We both do however desire to move to the Gulf Coast, but we are not set on Cape Coral after visiting. She's thinking of finding a different opportunity in the Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte area. She's in the medical field and highly mobile, I work from home.

I'm very familiar with Punta Gorda as I had family that lived their a good portion of my life. We both love the feel of it and the traffic is better than where we currently live. PG is a very beautiful small town city that has everything we want (except a younger crowd). We'd love to live there, but for what we want (salt water access), it's nearly impossible to find a home in our price range (maximum $350,000 but would prefer no more than $300,000).

Then we started to consider Port Charlotte for affordability. I have no familiarity with PC and was hoping to get some personal experience from people who live/lived there.

Thanks!

Port Charlotte has been growing in population with a lot of new construction. During the winter season you definitely notice a difference in heavier traffic and crowded at restaurants, etc. Having said that, traffic is much less congested than Cape Coral, Ft Myers, Venice or Sarasota.

There are two hospitals in Port Charlotte. The question how are they? - Depends on what type of service you are looking for and what you have to have done. I think they are both nice hospitals. I have been to both ER's, have visited family having procedures done in both and would feel comfortable myself going to either if I needed a service or procedure. I personally prefer Fawcett. But you may get a lot of different opinions from other folks.

Fawcett Memorial - https://fawcetthospital.com/

Bayfront - https://www.bayfrontcharlotte.com/?u...utm_medium=gmb

Yes, a salt water access home is feasible for around $300k in Port Charlotte. You won't have many choices depending if you want a pool, age of home, dock, boat lift, etc. But there are homes in that price range. Right now there are 38 single family saltwater canal homes under $300k in Port Charlotte but the majority of them are older built in the 60's and 70's and smaller homes. There are a few built in the 80's and 90's. If you want newer built and larger you will probably have to go over $300k. This area for saltwater canal homes is more affordable than other areas such as Punta Gorda like you said. If you go to the non Punta Gorda Isles section of Punta Gorda you will find some homes in your price range such as Charlotte Park or Tierra Coronado.

Port Charlotte has lots of options for employment in the medical field. The area has a lot of things to do within town and within short driving distance. There are all types of shopping, restaurants, baseball park, Charlotte County Fairgrounds, events in parks, boat ramps, Charlotte County Beach Complex, and so much more.

Just had back surgery and my Primary said do not go to a local hospital. I went to Sarasota and had excellent care. Did have a cardiac procedure done at Fawcett only because i really trust the Dr. not because of the hospital.

I had my left hip replaced at Englewood Hospital in March of 2017. I couldn't be happier with my treatment/care. A friend had a knee replaced the year prior. His rave reviews led me to both the local Orthopedic Surgeon & hospital.
