Seams to me, by time you add up the cost of the second heater, piping filtration, propane cost, you would be better off just changing the plumbing and use one electric heater.

We're already running propane to the house for cooking and the fireplace so we figured add a spa connection too. It really heats much quicker than electric and we've only ever had gas...

riverchic Not trying to be argumentative. Just trying to understand the logic of having two heaters to heat the same water. You are spending 3K + for a electric heater and then another 2K + for a gas heater. Plus the adding cost for plumbing etc. Not to mention again the operating cost of propane.

A electric heater that is ONLY heating the spa (500 gallons) when in use, does not take that much longer to heat than propane in SWFL.

I got to be missing something!?

BTW. Since you are having propane installed. Don't for get to add "outlets" for the Outdoor BBQ Grill and Whole house Generator. Cheaper to do it now than later.

Oops, been busy at work this week. No worries about asking questions. We had a pool years ago with a spa so we're used to getting hot water immediately, it ran off a gas heater and that thing was pretty hot in less than 30 minutes. Everyone has been telling us that it would take a couple of hours to get it hot enough with the electric heater - including the pool company. We were already getting propane run to the house so it didn't seem to be that big of a deal to just run it to the spa too.

If anyone can join in and let me know how long it takes to get their spa hot with electric, I'm all ears!

Thanks for the tips on the outlets

That would depend upon what you consistently keep your pool at and size and configuration of spa. In the summer our pool is always around 86 and the spa heats up pretty quick probably about 20 minutes. In the winter if we are not using the pool as much we let it drop down to about 78, but the spa still heats rather quickly, no way it takes 2 hours i would say more like under 1 hour.

Agree! This is with the heater; heating the spa only, via changing the valve (water) flows.

Just thought of a new one now that summer is over and I needed to add water to the pool.
Pool water auto-level filler or at least a water valve and piping that puts water into the pool.

I have to drag a hose to the pool edge to add water. I never thought about this when the pool was built or I would have added it.
