While we are soon to be digging up our property, septic replacement, pool install, seawall install, was thinking about having a sprinkler system installed. What's the good or bad. Is there a lot of upkeep/breakdowns? Any thoughts? Recommended installers in 33948

Well you can certainly tell who has a system by how nice their lawn is. It's just that everyone tell me about system failures. The hot sun, & grass cutting really test your system. Is this a DYI project? Or leave it to the pros?

I think it all depends if you are on a canal, on city water, or on a well.
Canal water is the best and free, except for pump electricity. City water is expensive. Well water has a lot of minerals like iron that shows as rust.
I have a canal system and have no complaints, no failures.

It depends on what kind of canal you're on. A freshwater canal is fine but a saltwater canal will kill off your vegetation.

If you were using city water like I am you could imagine it! I hate the way my lawn looks in the winter but without a well or canal, there is no way I’m paying for more of what is already exorbitantly priced water.

It depends on where you are. Some cities will allow you to install a second meter for the sprinklers only. That way you are not paying the sewer side of the water bill. THAT'S the expensive part of the bill.
