Saw this and wasn't sure if it was a new initiative or an old one. I would think that those who own waterfront in this area (myself included) would enjoy an additional access point:

I find it interesting that the descriptions of the two "options" as shown in the large picture do not match up with the descriptions/locations of the three "options noted further down the page.

I hope it never happens as that upper section of Muddy Cove and Tippecanoe Bay are nice places to get away from people. If they were to reconnect the original canal to the Flamingo at Christopher, they'd also have to dredge the entire cove south to Tippencanoe as that whole area is less than two feet deep. The other "options" look to have large wetlands impacts (mangroves) so I doubt that they'd be able to get permitting for the project especially since it would only impact a small percentage of the county.

It has been an on-going effort for quite some time. You can become a member of the group and will receive updates. I dont know when or if it will come to fruition, but they have made great strides since the start. Of course with any project of this magnitude it takes time and there are those for and against it.

Has this project been started? And if yes which option did they take?

No, there are no commitments that it is moving forward.
