Now that I've been here in Port Charlotte for a couple weeks, I need to close my bank accounts in NY and open an account at a bank in the area. I see ALOT of Bank of America and Wachovia branches, but to be honest I hate both of these Banks. Anyone have any advice on a good bank to use. I would like a bank with access to ATM's across Florida and no monthly checking/saving fees.
Thanks.

BB&T supposed to be a good strong bank. I have accounts at Regions and Wachovia, have not had any problems.

Satisfaction with a bank has much to do with the people you deal with, however you might want to check the bank ratings prior to establishing a relationship. Bauer Financial supply's a star rating on banks. Choosing a bank with at east a 3 star rating should let you sleep better at night.

I use Regions Bank which has a 3 1/2 star rating like bofa. With a minimum balance, banking there is without fees.

Good post above me. BB&T just took over Colonial's problems.

I think the bank of bricks will become many people's choice as we go into the next year.

Check out Suntrust we have been with them for years since we left NY. Never any problems at all. Free checking and 1700 branches with ATM's all over the southeast 11 states and DC. headquarters in Atlanta Ga.

I see a lot of posts on banks, how about strong and solid credit unions. In my opinion, having worked and banked with both a traditional big bank and credit unions, I prefer the credit union...any suggestions in the area?
