Wasn't sure whether to post here or in the Ft Myers board but I'll give it a shot. My husband and I drove around the neighborhood today to look at a couple of houses that were for sale and it looked OK. Older houses, some a little better taken care of than others. I didn't see anything that looked TOO bad. Does anyone know anything about crime in this area? We have a seriously tight budget 90k or less. Looking mostly at short sales and foreclosures but don't want to be anywhere scary as we're hoping to start a family soon. I lived in PG growing up but we lived off of Burnt Store rd (near the Village) so I'm not as familiar with the areas in town. These houses were off of Tarpon Way and Poinciana.

Hi !
We just bought in the PGI area. One reason is low crime. Even if they steal you can catch up to an 80 year old burgler. Seriously though, check the stats area of www.trulia.com. or use the search function here.

Thanks Sparky, yes PGI is VERY nice. Always has been and always will. Congratulations to you! We checked out the neighborhood again today. Thinking a pass on the Tarpon Way house. It doesn't sit on a pad and my dad says the area can flood. Poinciana might still be a possibility. According to Sperling the crime index in Charlotte Park is a little higher than what it would be in 33955 where my parents live and slightly below our current zip which is in Lehigh. Still need to think about it some more. Trying to make the right decision this time! Hoping maybe the summer will yield some more price drops. We're not in a major hurry, just want to make sure it's right. Liked what I saw off of Rio Villa but the houses seem pricier on that side
