OK now we've got Stern fans coming out of the woodwork.
You know what Stern listeners are? Imus listeners....but without the vocabulary. LOL
Stern fan here, and I have a VERY extensive vocabulary - with a BA in English + MLIS, and proficiency in two foreign languages (Spanish and Hebrew). Humor is subjective, and it just makes you look pretentious to pass such sweeping judgments.
I had the pleasure of working with both Imus and Stern when they were at WNBC Radio; needless to say both were unique in their own way. I will also state is that it was a great and exciting time to be working in radio. Both men revolutionized radio and changed NY radio forever. Imus is now more or less retired, living on his ranch and Howard will be retiring shortly as well. I'm not sure if radio will ever have the talent that these two brought to the airwaves again.
This man was a legend and is on the Mt Rushmore of Radio guys.
Retired May 2018, dead Dec. 2019. A lifetime spent on the radio.
I listened to this guy almost every day for almost 20 years, he was funny, he was entertaining, he was one of a kind. There are some video clips on this thread for some laughs.
He had a great show with excellent support people. He raised lots of money for charities and make lots of money for the radio networks and for the politicians anf journalists who peddled their books on his program (and who ran away from him after the Rutgers incident).
The guy wasn't perfect, had his demons, but knew how to run a successful radio program for 50 years.
RIP Iman. You were the beating heart of radio for nearly 50 years. I have missed you since your retirement and I will miss you in death. I am sad that the end came so soon after you left radio. I hope you enjoyed your retirement.

I wonder if Howard will be worried that if he retires he will drop dead in a year like Imus. Howard is off until atleast 1/6/20 but you know he is home ranting today about what he will say on the air when he returns.
