My sister is crazy over '60's, '70's, and '80's music and we're in a somewhat rural area with not many radio choices. What is the best app to use that makes it easy to select the "stations" she wants and then to play those stations? By stations I guess I'm open to either actual radio stations or "channels". Ad-free would be great and I'd be willing to pay maybe up to $10/mo for that, especially if it means she won't be getting ads when either playing the music or through the app itself for other crap that then she can accidentally download.
There are other relevant details about my sister: She has somewhat limited cognitive ability and is currently in a nursing home. She has a smart phone and a Kindle Fire HD 10 and there is wifi access there. The tv is provided by the nursing home - it is "smart" but they only give residents a "dumb" remote so they can't access anything beyond channels and volume.
Right now, every single day she says "something is wrong" with her phone or tablet - she doesn't understand and can't stand ads - a couple days ago I deleted one HUNDRED apps off her phone! Three days before that I'd deleted three dozen! I don't know what she's doing but that's likely a separate issue. Point is, I want a "clean" radio app that won't be shoving stuff to her.
Sorry for the length but I could use some good ideas that will help her occupy her time and be without frustration to either of us. Thanks for any suggestions.
Yes - this looks promising from the standpoint that it's a separate device and looks similar to a "regular" (old time) radio. I could set it up for her...a bit concerned because a fair number of reviews mention that it loses wifi connection pretty often. My sister's current connection seems pretty stable so I don't know if people's issue was their own bad / weak wifi or the device.
She might like spotify. I listen to it in my car through the app on my phone and I've been amazed at some of the old sixties music I have found that I couldn't find on other apps. I think it's about 9 or 10 bucks a month and I don't recall any ads. You can search by artist, or browse decades. I like it very much.
