A year ago, a family friend had a dog who was getting sicker and weaker with each passing month. It got to the point where I had to step in and take him to a vet to get a final prognosis. He had too many problems health-wise and and since my friend didn't have the heart to go through with it, I had to give the ok to PTS.
I knew this dog since he was a puppy. And I can tell you, I can't help but get teary eyed every time I think about him and what a great dog he was.
I truly hope I get to see him again someday: Running around, healthy, no pain. He made me realize that pets are not just animals. They're family.

Lord Augusta and I got whacked three times this year. Our African Green Singer finch, Pippin, passed away the day we moved here in May. I imagine that the stress was too much for him. Since he was a rescue, we don't know how old he was.

On June 9th, our beloved male lovebird, Mott The Hoople, passed away. He was a singly kept lovebird and we'd had him since he was six weeks old. He was eight years old when he passed...and since he and I had a strong bond, I took his loss very hard. I still 'talk' to him all the time.

Shortly after that, our little white rescue male budgie, Sparta, left us. He dearly loved Lord Augusta, and poor hubby was devastated.

It is so difficult to have to say goodbye to an animal, as they are indeed family. However, I am convinced that the goodbye is temporary. I firmly believe that we will all be reunited with our fids when it is our time.
